Diagnosis

This strategy made a substantial profit of over 1900% on TSLA, but the ride was extremely lumpy. The worst stretch was a brutal 51% drawdown that lasted about two years, from mid-2017 to mid-2019, which would have been very painful to sit through. The win rate was only 33%, meaning most trades lost money, but the winners were large enough to more than make up for it. The result is not driven by just a few lucky trades, as the entry timing itself shows a real edge, beating 79% of random entry runs. The edge was also consistent, showing up as profitable in every single walk-forward test period, so the strategy's performance was not a fluke from one lucky stretch.
